ABOUT KITAURA MATCHA

The name Kitaura comes from family roots and aligns with the idea of returning — to one’s centre, and to what feels essential.

Honouring the Way of Tea, we share matcha through transparent sourcing and practices that connect cultivation to culture, soil to spirit.

Honouring the Way of Tea

At Kitaura Matcha, our work is rooted in the living lineage of the Way of Tea (Sadō). Guided by respect for this tradition, we share matcha not only as a product, but as a cultural practice shaped by time, care, and restraint.

In a market where origin is often used as a primary measure of quality, we believe authenticity lies in how tea is cultivated, handled, and carried forward—linking soil to spirit, and practice to meaning.

Sourcing & Production

We work with a small, family-run tea farm in Makinohara not for efficiency, but to support a way of working shaped by time, care, and close attention to place.

In an industry increasingly driven by scale and speed, these practices are difficult to sustain. By committing to them, we aim to support the people behind the tea — and the quiet continuity of their work.

The same respect guides our choice of packaging. Each tin is handcrafted by Japanese artisans with over 130 years of tradition, designed to preserve matcha in its best condition while honouring the material culture that surrounds the Way of Tea.

Further details about the matcha can be found here.

Consumption & Philosophy

While we honour traditional production methods, we also invite mindfulness in consumption.

Kitaura Matcha is crafted to be savoured pure, with intention. The Way of Tea teaches that enlightenment is not elsewhere—it is realized in the ordinary: within the bowl, the breath, and the unrepeatable moment of encounter.
